Food was alright and it’s not cheap, restaurant isn’t clean and the service was downright unacceptable. Manager asked how food was and we gave feedback there was a bit of sand in some of the clams but the food was alright. The response was to walk away without saying anything and come back five minutes later asking us to pay the bill and leave as they need to close shop when the restaurant is still open for another two hours. Subsequently he made snappy and rude remarks at the table as we paid the bill. I’d say avoid this place.
Found this Chiuchow spot that's all about the authentic vibes! It's quite packed inside, but it's cozy - they even gave us up with a private corner with a partition. And let me tell you, the raw seafood game is on point! Mantis shrimp and Chiu chow raw clams (生腌獅蚶) were fresh and tasty.
The real MVP was the Poached squid with shrimp paste - it was cooked to perfection and had me feeling like I was chillin' by the ocean! The goose liver was also fire - super smooth and packed with flavor. The fried fish noodles were decent, but it turns out they're made with fish ball instead of fish meat - not really my thing. And don't even get me started on the Chiu Chou style crispy salted egg rolls - they were the bomb! The orange peel flavor was off the charts!
Went back twice in a month and it's definitely a spot to hit up with your fam or squad.
A very authentic Chiu Chow restaurant, and it also looked like it has been around for a good number of years.
The classic 🦪方魚肉碎蠔仔粥Congee with minced pork, dried flounder and oysters was delicious 🤤 with plenty of fresh plump oysters 🦪 though the minced pork used was on the fatty side.
Another delicious yet very traditional dish we had was their 🦆芋泥香酥鴨 Crispy duck with toro purée! Loved the flaky crispy layer, and the smooth taro paste sandwiched within along with the gamey flavour of the duck! Very well-executed!👍🏻
And of course, we had to other a side of 滷水鵝片Spiced goose Chiu chow style! We ordered only a half portion as we already had way too much food. Great flavour and quality though they sliced it from the wrong angle, which made the meat a tad tougher than it otherwise would be😭
Overall, although food was great, personally, I am not too keen to revisit considering the service (which was no service at all), how battered and worn the interior of the restaurant was (eg the seats, the tablecloth etc) and the poor public health awareness (esp during Covid times). Food was also quite pricey given the environment of the restaurant.
This Chaozhau restaurant serves special dishes if you dare to eat them. They have blood clams 血蛤, crabs 膏蟹, mini lobster 龍蝦仔 all raw and brined in salt, garlic, ginger, onion, shaoxing wine. But all this need to be order in advance when you book for a table.
The other cooked food we ordered were oyster with egg 煎蠔餅, stir fry noodles (兩面黃) deep fry pork intestine 炸豬大腸, a chicken soup etc. All these goes well with congee instead of rice.
We also managed to byob with no corkage.
The service is excellent and quick and friendly. Place is very clean (can tell by how they manage the toilet).
Highly recommended.
Authentic ChaoZhou cuisine with reasonable price. It’s not very spacious, but the foods are worth to try.
The oyster omelet is the must-try dish here! The marinated goose is also very famous. Will not disappoint you.
Traditional Chiu Chow cuisine. Fast turnaround even on Thurs nite. They only gave us 2 hours to dine in. Salty goose was good but some pieces were overcook. Oyster porridge and omelette really good. Prices reasonable.
A long-standing Chinese resturant specialist ing in ChiuChownese food. Most of the dishes were okay but not super impressive. Service was alright given its a busy restaurant.
Speaking frankly and being honest, the quality of their food is always above average and I have been their customer for yearssss. Yesterday was my first time revisit them after 7 years, I’ve found that we’ve been treated unfairly (as we didn’t order expensive dishes?) I hope it’s not the reason, and people smoking in the room making us really suffocated. I was so disappointed, I would not pay them a visit again.
